party at the m-oh-r’s!

We’re having a Halloween party tonight!  Woop Woop!  Looking forward to having people here…but what do you do at an adult Halloween Party?  I’m guessing that food, drinks, bonfire, and playing Just Dance Wii in costumes will be enough entertainment.  I hope so, cause I haven’t really planned much.

But since we’re having a bunch of people over, we have some work to get done, so I don’t have time for a long post.  I’ve got food to make, costumes to make, a house to clean up, and Greg is attempting to take care of the yard work (raking and building a fire pit) all before people get here in T-9 hours.  Seems like a lot of time, but not when you have a list of a million things to do.

Anyway, all that to say…I will post with pictures later, but for now I will leave you with a sneak peak of our costume (matching, I know…cute.  Actually just cheaper to do the same thing twice and not buy supplies for 2 separate things:)).   Can you guess WHOOOOOOO we are going to be?

photo booth

So I love the concept of a PhotoBooth…you know the kind where you pose for 4 pictures and you are silly in one, sweet in another, etc….but I don’t like the pricetag that is attached to a PhotoBooth.  It seems silly to pay a handful of bucks for 2 minutes worth of entertainment.  So I’ve been searching around online to find a free “online” PhotoBooth but never successfully found one….or at least an easy to use one.

Until now!

I was reading on someone else’s blog and they used this website called PhotoBoother.  It’s fantastic.  Nothing fancy, but it definitely gives you the PhotoBooth effect.  I love it!

So, without further ado, here is my first PhotoBooth film strip….

Isn’t that so fun??  I can’t wait till Greg gets home so I can rope him into taking pictures with me!

So glad I stumbled upon it….now go take some pictures of yourself!!!!

filling my bucket…

I read this story to my students at the beginning of the year…

“How Full is Your Bucket”

It’s a great book for teaching COMPASSION which is a really big theme at our school.  Essentially the book tells about how people have these invisible buckets and if they get their feelings hurt or someone is mean to them, drips spill out of their bucket and their bucket is pretty empty.  But if people are nice and loving and say kind things, they get big drops back into their bucket and their bucket gets nice and full.

I use this phrase “My  bucket is pretty empty right now…” or “Wow, that helped fill my bucket…” because the kids really can identify with it.

In any case, I have been feeling pretty lucky that my bucket has been filled by many people here at work.  Obviously it isn’t always full (hence the post a few days ago) but it’s times when people go out of their way to “fill” your bucket that really stick with you.

I just have to share a few…

Also, I know it’s early on in the school year, but I just wanted to compliment you on how well you run your classroom.  Lily continually tells me how much she “LOVES” school, and I’m seeing some great progress in her academics and responsibility level already!!  Additionally, I am a BIG FAN of the planners you have incorporated, and  I appreciate the communication between school and home it provides.

I also wanted to let you know how much James is enjoying being in your class this year. Everyday he tells me he had a great day in school and this morning at the bus stop he told me he was sad there was no school tomorrow. This is much different from last year. Thanks for all you do.
He likes the school and he really likes you as his teacher. That much we know for sure.  Thank you for all your help.  We appreciate you being his teacher!
Mrs. More.  You are nice and prette and kind and fashinubow and fun.
So with all that said…make sure you fill someone’s bucket today!

it’s about time!

I think about writing everyday…seriously.  And then I find myself busy and running out of time.

See this year is a little bit different.  I’m always exhausted by the end of the day (that’s not any different) but this year it’s more than just a physical exhaustion…it’s pretty mental and emotional too.  Our school year has been pretty intense, to say the least…we’re undergoing a lot of change and lots of transition, which really hits teachers hard.  Not because we can’t handle change or transition…but because I’m not sure that many of us agree with, or believe in these changes.  So every day you go to work and are bombarded with so many “things” and by the end of the day I am so fried I can’t even get myself to write…which is what I love.

But that’s why I SHOULD get my butt into gear and write…because I love it.  I love reflecting and remembering and sharing.  It’s good for me.  So even though all of these other things are bogging me down, I know the importance of taking some time to do something good for myself.

I have been trying to do things “good for myself” but it hasn’t included blogging…simply because I couldn’t do it all.  For example…

…I’ve been getting into bed around 9:00 or 9:30 every day.  I could stay up later…and last year I did stay up later…but I realized that having as close to 7 or 8 hours of sleep is something that I needed to prioritize in order to feel my best and ready for the day.

…I’ve been going to the gym at least 3-4 times a week which is a huge thing and really important.  I am on my feet all day and walking around, and usually feel physically like I’ve just run a marathon after a day of work, BUT I know that just standing up all day doesn’t keep me healthy.  So going to the gym has been an important thing for me and a way to do something for me.  Plus it’s pretty darn fun to go to Zumba 🙂

…I’ve been reading and enjoying down time.  I usually think of all the chores that need to get done, the dishes that need to be washed, the floor that needs to be cleaned, but lately I’ve been learning to let some of those things go–within reason.  I am ok with leaving the dishes in the sink for an hour after dinner so I can sit down and read, or sit down and talk with Greg.

…I’ve been allowing myself to do things I enjoy…like trying out crafts and projects.  These things are totally “unnecessary”…meaning, I would live without doing them…but how fun it is to tap into my creative side and to do things that I enjoy.  I recently made a fall wreath (more on that later) and a set of coasters for a house warming party!

So I really have been trying to take time to do things that are good for ME…and blogging is one of those things, but I just couldn’t do it all at once.  So while I really still feel exhausted by the end of the day, and I’m pretty drained, I’m trying to be better about balancing it all and making time despite the tiredness, because I know it is good for me!

Cheers to another day!

randoms on a satuday

Whoa.  Where did last week go??  I didn’t even have time to post a picture on Wednesday…and that’s the easiest  day to blog.  Yeesh!  Oh well.  I’m here now, doing at least one weekend post…maybe two if you’re lucky 🙂

However today I don’t have a clear path for writing….I have so many random thoughts circling through my head, so I figured I’d just share those!  Cool?  Cool!

Crafting….man, oh man.  Have you been on Pinterest yet?  If not, you gotta check it out.  That place is what inspires me to be creative, but I have yet to try out any of the creativity that has inspired me.  Fail.  That’s going to change today.  I am going to go and get supplies for 1 or maybe 2 crafty things I’ve been interested in trying.  The thing about “crafting” is that it costs money….some people have heaps of random supplies on hand, but I don’t…so in order to do any sort of craft or project I have to go out and buy it.  Fortunately for me I found a 50% off coupon at Michaels.  Here’s to doing something craft today!

Penicillin…thank goodness that penicillin was available to me when I had strep.  I was celebrating this week when I finished the entire prescription because often times I forget to fully complete a prescription….for example, I don’t think I ever finished my typhoid pills from missions trips.  Oh well.  Anyway…it was a pain to have to remember to take the pills 2 times a day, but I did it and I am feel much better.  Actually I finished on Tuesday and then my throat started hurting on Wednesday and I was very worried the meds didn’t work fully….but my throat is feeling much better this weekend, so I’m thinking it was just sore from over-use.

Gas….gas for my car.  Gas prices went down SO, SO LOW here…I’m taking $3.20-something last week….but then within an over night time frame it was back up to $3.50-ish.  What??  That’s so silly.  Anyway….$3.50 is still much cheaper than it has been recently, but I’d love for it to go back down a few more cents.

Costco….right before Greg and I got married we got a Sam’s membership because we got our wedding cupcakes from there (CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!!!!)…anyway, we used Sam’s club mostly for things like meat, vitamins, granola bars, juice, etc.  Things that we knew wouldn’t spoil easily, because they sell things in packages big enough to feed a village…and we are definitely not a village.  Anyway, when we moved into our house, Sam’s club was no longer the closest option for us.  We are now closer to a Costco, so we recently quit Sam’s and joined Costco.  And it’s so weird how attached or comfortable I got with Sam’s Club because now, going to Costco, is rather hard for me.  They don’t sell the exact same products and while things are laid our similarly, it’s not the same…it’s really throwing me off.  If I am struggling with changing bulk grocery stores, imagine how I deal with other change.  HA!

Zumba…Greg and I recently joined LA Fitness and I am soooo excited about it.  I am so much more motivated to exercise when I have to pay for it.  We got a deal through the gym and with my insurance paying for part of my membership (if I got 12 times per month) it is a whopping $10 each month…it’s fantastic.  But not only am I motivated to go if I have to pay…but also so motivated when someone is leading exercise.  LA Fitness has so many classes and I just tried my first class last week with my friend, Laurie.  We went to Zumba and it was super fun!  I was telling Greg and as long as there was ONE person worse than me, I’d be fine.  Because as long as there is one person worse than you, you won’t be the person everyone is giggling at.  Come on, you know it’s true.  Anyway…thankfully there was one more more uncoordinated then me.   Whew.  Anyway….to give you a visual of this silly little thing called Zumba, check out this youtube.  And see if you can spy the uncoordinated girl in this class.  🙂

Spaghetti-o’s….Dora the Explorer Spaghetti-o’s to be exact.  The only thing I can say about this is that they are not quite as wonderful when you are 28 as they are when you are 8.  Not even close.  I bought a can just because I was intrigued by what it would taste like these days….plus Greg was out of town this week, which means I am “off the hook” for meals and just do random things.  I was so pumped to eat them, and so quickly disappointed in how nasty they were.  Haha.  Oh well.  It was worth the try!

And there you have it folks.  Random things that were floating around in my head on this fine, sunny, and warm Saturday!  Enjoy your weekend!
