Thank goodness for long weekends which allow daddy to be home with us one extra day! We had a long, tiring weekend….the babies came down with a cold and are doing some major teething so it was not a super peachy weekend….yet I look back at my photos and see that we did have fun amidst the stress and chaos of two uncomfortable babies!
We started off the weekend taking the babies to a Baby Gym Class! I have been itching to get them into a more organized setting…maybe it’s the teacher in me? So when I found this baby gym a few miles from home I thought we would give it a whirl! It was a total hit! I couldn’t stop giggling and laughing at how much fun the babies were having!
Greg and I also were able to squeeze in a date night on Saturday! We got the babies in bed, the sitter came over, and we enjoy dinner together! You know what else I enjoyed?? This yummy, fruity, alcoholic (that didn’t taste at all like alcohol) beverage! It was called “Kinky Breeze”….it really should just be called “Delicious Breeze”…so good!
The weather continues to be lame so we mostly played inside but we did get out for a quick walk despite the chilly air!
We wrapped up the weekend with a BBQ with friends and then mama got to indulge in watching the Bachelorette with a girlfriend!
I am so blessed that I have a husband who is willing to be so hands on during his “break” from work….when you have two babies from the get-go, both mama and daddy are working two “full time jobs” ….it’s round the clock. Luckily for us, I have a great partner in parenting and the babies have a fun daddy to play with!
Thankful for the weekend together!
I forgot to post this yesterday, though I did get a picture…but since its before 6 AM, we can count it as “yesterday”…right?!
Embracing the camera with both of my 11 month nuggets! We have had a handful of painfully long days due to rain and crappy weather….but we got out yesterday and it made us all extremely happy!
Don’t forget to get in the pic with those you love!!
If something has the word “oatmeal” it has to be a healthy breakfast food, right?
I came across this recipe a while ago (I forgot where I got it) so, on Saturday morning, when I was trying desperate to stay awake with the babies around 5 am, I decided I wanted to bake and I realized I had everything for these muffins…
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins
Makes 12 standard-sized muffins
1 and 1/3 cup flour
1 cup oats (I used quick oats since it’s what we had on hand)
1/2 tsp salt
1 TBS baking powder
1 cup milk
1/4 cup canola oil (optional, or replaceable with applesauce or other ingredients)
1 cup mini chocolate chips
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. In a smaller bowl, combine the wet ingredients and whisk well. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix together with as few strokes as possible. Add in your chocolate chips, divide the batter into muffin liners or a greased muffin tin and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes (or until they test done with a toothpick)!
Don’t they look scrumptious?!?
Super quick and easy to make!
But I put it to the ultimate taste test and fed it to the babies…
I wasn’t really sure how it would go over cause they have never had chocolate… but who am I kidding?! Who doesn’t like chocolate? It was such a small amount but they sure did gobble it up!
Tasty treat on an early Saturday morning!
My, my, my…it’s been a full week since I posted. No good excuse…just plain old ran out of time!
Here we are at another Monday….it’s funny how I always used to dread Mondays as it meant the weekend was over and back to work….but now I work 7 days a week, so Monday is like any other day :). Can’t complain though….my bosses are pretty cute!
Unfortunately over the weekend we had pretty gross weather…lots and lots I rain. Which meant we were cooped up inside. But we did make the best of it and played hard, regardless. We made a trip to Target, mall, grocery store, a haircut for Joshua and worked on a new “one nap a day” schedule. Quite the change for everyone…but one baby slept till 6:00 am and the other 6:45 am which feels like 10:00 am compared to waking before 5 some days. Not sure if this new schedule will stick but we are in trial mode for the week!
Here is our weekend in pictures….
Oatmeal chocolate chip muffins for breakfast…they were a hit…will share more on that later this week.
Riding in style for our separate Target and grocery store runs…
Joshua’s first haircut (again…more on this later this week)…
Play time at the mall…I had no idea if they would know what to do but they enjoyed crawling around and exploring with daddy while mama shopped!
Sharing an afternoon snack…
Finally, one of my favorite moments…they both sat still, cuddled next to mama for a blissful 10 + minutes while we watched a show on our rainy Sunday afternoon. I don’t think they have done this…at the same time…ever. Awesome!
Sure do love our weekends! Have a great Monday!
Can’t believe the weekend is already over! Here we are, Monday…ready or not!
Part of the reason the weekend felt short was because the boys were gone for part of it…Greg had a trip for work in Michigan, so he took Joshua with him. It wasn’t take your baby to work day, but since my family lives so close, Joshua got to hang with the Ventura bunch while daddy was working…it was only fair since Sophia got to visit the weekend before with mama!
Here are the boys before I smooched them goodbye at the airport…
So while the boys were gone, us girls kept busy! We had a play date, a dinner date, and made an early morning run to Target and the grocery store. It felt easy breezy to tote around only one bambino…still hard work, obviously, but logistically speaking, much easier 🙂
Oh and Sophia had control of the remote ALL WEEKEND.
We were all back under one roof by Saturday afternoon and enjoyed lunch out, a family nap, lots of play time, and attending a family baby shower!
Sunday was a pretty normal day but we did manage to get out for a yummy breakfast. We kept the babies entertained by continually tossing food their way….I think Greg and I both almost finished our meals. Not bad!
As I was thinking about being a mama on Sunday, I came to a few conclusions:
1. I never dreamed of having two at once….most girls, at some point, say “oh I hope I have twins someday…” Not this gal. So when I had two at once I am not sure that I gracefully adapted to motherhood as I had hoped or planned.
2. I try to highlight the fun parts of being a mama and having babies, but lets be real. This is the hardest job I have ever had…it is extremely rewarding but oh so hard. I think moms are afraid to be honest that some days are crap…like they will sound like a bad mom if everyday isn’t all “rainbows and sprinkles”…I am here to tell you that it is tough at times…
3. But with the tough moments…the moments that bring me to tears of frustration, and helplessness…once through those moments I experience the kind of joy that only comes from being a mom. I get to see my babies learning new things daily…I get to see them develop a love (despite the toy stealing) for each other…I get to see so many amazing things I never knew I could be so proud of…and that…THAT is what makes this job the best, most rewarding thing I will ever do.
I am so thankful that God has entrusted Sophia and Joshua to me (and Greg of course)…and that He chose me to be their mom!
Enough of the sappy weekend recap! Cheers to your Monday!
