Seriously. I lost my wedding ring.

I said this several times to Greg and and to a few friends…and I was 100% sure my pretty little sparkly ring was a goner. But rest assured, this story has a happy ending!

I wore my ring on Saturday morning and by Sunday afternoon I wasn’t sure where it was. By Sunday evening I was starting to panic.

I always take it off to shower and go to bed…and other occasional times, but I always know where it is. On my nightstand…on the counter next to a basket in the bathroom…or sometimes on the kitchen table/counter if I am cooking. And once in a blue moon I leave it on the couch if I take a quick nap {yes, I know, not smart}.

Regardless, I almost always know where it is. Really! This time, however, I checked ALL of my normal places…and the not so normal ones…several times. Nothing.

Then Sunday night I got up to bed and thought I should pick up a bit. I saw a few candy wrappers on my nightstand and figured I could at least toss those in the trash…the clothes on the chair could wait. As I picked up the wrappers I felt and saw a little ray of sparkly sunshine…

And then it all came back to me. I took a nap on Saturday while the kids were napping, but BEFORE I slept i gobbled up a few pieces of the good Halloween candy from our stash and then must have fallen asleep immediately after, tossing the wrappers aside….covering my ring.

When I uncovered the ring I am pretty sure I said out loud “you have got to be kidding me…how embarrassing….”

And yes, it is quite embarrassing that I lost my ring amongst chocolate wrappers…but I am pregnant, like to take the occasional nap, and like to snack before doing so…sue me!

It is kind of funny though, now that I think about it 🙂

Last pregnancy I didn’t have a super specific food item that I wanted all the time. I did have craving but it changed and was always random.

This time there is no denying the craving…without a doubt it’s macaroni! I could eat it every day, multiple times a day…with absolutely no problem.

Boxed macaroni…homemade baked macaroni…restaurant style…all of it. NOW! Please and thank you!

how to: fall leaf fun

Last year around this time the kids were not yet 18 mo…so small. I don’t remember really playing with the leaves. We don’t have many leaf shedding trees in our yard and at 18 mo I did not trust the kids to go for a walk around the neighborhood to hunt leaves so…we probably just didn’t explore much last year.

This year, however, the kids have been LOVING all the pretty leaves! We talk about the colors and sizes and we FINALLY learned the art of leaf throwing! Such a blast. Also kind of funny that I had to show them the process…

First, gather…

Next, hold a pile above your head {don’t let go too soon!}…

Finally, let go of all those leaves while yelling WEEEEEE!!!!

They had so much fun doing this and surprisingly didn’t throw any on mommy…good job kids!

So cool to see your kids learn …even something as silly and simple as throwing leaves! We love this time of year so much!

weekend fun!

Oh the dreaded Monday morning. I always feel a little blue when Monday rolls around because it means that the weekend is now over, Greg is back to work, and it’s another 5 days till we have a good chunk of family time again. It doesn’t last too long because I happen to have two cute kiddos that make me smile and keep me too busy to think about it much…but still. Can it be Friday yet??

We had a good weekend. A few tantrums (nothing epic…whew!)…but mostly just a well rounded time! Saturday morning we headed downtown Detroit for a quick little visit. I haven’t been downtown to explore nearly enough…it’s not close but not far, so it’s the kind of place we visit only if we have plans…and this weekend we did! Greg ran in a relay for the Detroit marathon with some friends from work and he had to go downtown to pick up his race packet. We walked around the convention center and picked up lots of freebies for the kids …

Then Greg went and dumped the stroller in the car so we could move about more freely…I kept the kids at the convention center and we rode the escalator/elevators many times. They had a blast…

We thought about going to the zoo or museum in Detroit but by the time we were done with race stuff we decided spending $1.50 on a ride on the people mover was best idea….it was a big loop and lasted maybe 15 mins but the kids were in heaven! Riding the “train” and peering out the windows and the sites of the city. Love!

We walked back to the car and got lots of smiles cause the kids were sporting their race headbands the whole way back!

Nothing fancy but mostly just really fun letting them explore a new space! We spent the afternoon at home napping and playing and then went to Greg’s work friend’s house for a pasta dinner for a pre race meal! The kids were the life of the party and we spent most of our time making sure they weren’t getting into trouble 😉

Sunday Greg left early for the race and the kids and I went to church….then we spent the afternoon together and grandma v came over around dinner time to play with the kids so Greg and I could have a date night. We shopped for mattresses and had a yummy Italian dinner…home by 7:30. My kind of night! Oh and grandma brought this Thomas garage which the kids were/are obsessed with! Score!

Full weekend but always a blast to have family adventures!!!

Ok…not really.

As the kids get older it feels more and more necessary to do more structured/learning type activities. They are learning and soaking up so much that it seems silly not to take advantage.

And at the same time, I find it really hard to find the time and energy to plan meaningful learning activities. I know, I know…I have a minor in early childhood education, this should be a piece of cake. But here’s the difference….when I was teaching I was getting paid to plan and make great lessons. I was given time to create and brainstorm.

Honestly, it’s easier if we just go to the gym or a mommy group and they get entertainment that way…BUT, I also know we all need some activities that keep us stimulated and busy when we are at home.

Yesterday I planned an activity! And by plan I mean I thought of it 1 minute before attempting. I pulled out our dot paint and let them free paint for a while ….

Then after they had their fill of DOT DOT DOTTING I got out our ABC dot sheets and attempted to show them how to follow the dots with their paint. I was actually surprised by how hard they were concentrating on this task. Obviously they are still little, so this is a major fine motor skill challenge, but they had fun!

We talked about what letters start with the letter A and sang a little song about the letter A…but that was it essentially. Nothing fancy but it felt good to have a little afternoon structure! Hoping to keep up momentum with these types of activities as the continue to grow and gobble up new info.
