last weekend fun!

We have been planning this weekend for months!  We decided to take a trip to meet up with some of our really good friends in Chicago!  They live in Minneapolis so we don’t see them often anymore.

It was truly a refreshing weekend spending a few days catching up on life, talking about marriage and kids and, of course, The Bachelor ;).

We rented a house and it was a low key, fun weekend!  Mostly eating, talking, some city exploring, sprinkled with coloring books and  baby cuddling (our friends have two new babies that came along, we were baby free :))!  Love these people so much!!!

weekend fun!

This weekend was quite lovely!  We had very little planned so we just kind of went with the the flow!
Saturday was Greg’s birthday, so we celebrated with donuts in bed, silly birthday glasses, playtime as a family and then we had a date night while the kids were tucked in my Aunt Ede!

Sunday was just as great;  we took it easy in the morning and then when Clara was ready for her first nap the big kids and daddy went off to a Home Depot adventure!

Stinker baby thought 30 mins was a long enough nap, so she helped me fold laundry instead!  Around lunch we packed everyone up to head to a paro for a picnic/play/walk!  It was so so fun!  The park was empty, the weather was gorgeous, the kids were happy!!!

We finished out the day with baths, human towers and piggies for Clara!

dear teacher…

I have always been the TEACHER….never the PARENT….but tomorrow, it’s my turn to be the parent taking her kids to their first day of school. I know preschool is really not THAT big of a deal….they aren’t going to college or anything….but at the same time, it is THAT big of a deal….this is their first experience away from home. Now, being on the parent side of things, I wish, as a teacher, I had gotten a letter from each of my student’s parents on the first day of school….letters straight from the parent’s heart…

Dear Teacher,

My son Joshua is in your Pre School class this year. He is really excited about going to school and that you, Mrs. Applesauce {he giggled when picking that name for you because he couldn’t remember your real name} are going to be his teacher!

Joshua is usually called Joshy at home and does NOT like being called Josh. He has made that clear to us. Joshy has a twin sister, Sophia. Yes, they are twins, but Joshua is Joshua….not just “Sophia’s twin”…Joshua may play with other kids, but know that he is very aware of his sister’s whereabouts and will probably want to check in on what she’s doing.

Joshy loves to ask questions and loves to share answers. He may blurt out in the middle of story time, but it’s only because he’s so curious and excited to share what he knows with you. He is really active and likes to be able to move around, but he can also be extremely focused….this kid was building marshmallow towers for 30 minutes straight the other day.

I wouldn’t put it past Joshua to throw a tantrum at school {I sure hope he doesn’t, but he might…}. He is very passionate and I really mean that–I’m not just trying to “sugar coat” his strong willed-ness–he does things with 100% of himself, so sometimes, when things don’t go according to plan, it comes out in a 3 year old tantrum. If that happens, be patient with him. Please don’t roll your eyes and say “Oh boy, he’s THAT kid…” {I admit, I am sure I did that a time or two as a teacher myself}. Know that he desperately wants to do the right thing, and to make you proud.

I mostly just want you to know that Joshua is an amazing kid. I know, I’m a little biased. But really. He is. I hope you get to see that in him…I know he’ll have good days and not so great days…but please know he’s trying; we as parents are trying; trying to raise a kind, patient, obedient and respectful little guy….

I’m so excited for this new adventure….and I’m also a little terrified….thanks for taking the time to read this. You are going to a huge part of Joshua’s life, and we are so very thankful for that!

Sincerely,

Joshy’s Mama

++++++++++++

Dear Teacher,

My daughter Sophia is in your Pre School class this year. She is really excited about going to school and that you, Mr. Kay {she is certain you are a MR not a MRS} are going to be her teacher!

Sophia is usually called Fia at home and does NOT answer to the name Sophie. Sophia has a twin brother, Joshua. Yes, they are twins, but Sophia is Sophia….not just “Joshua’s twin sister”…Sophia may want to follow her brother around and play with him, or she might be brave enough to venture off on her own, but she will most likely ask and wonder what Joshy is up to.

Sophia loves to sing songs; in fact I am sure you have a little jingle for most things that happen in preschool and I am positive she will have every one of them memorized by the end of day one. Sophia gets bored relatively quickly, so keep things interesting and fun…she’ll be captivated if you do!

I wouldn’t put it past Sophia to have a meltdown sometime while she’s at school. She’s a sensitive little gal and really just wants to know that she’s cared for…sometimes I think she cries louder and harder when we try to ignore the meltdown because she just wants someone to reassure her that everything is OK. Please don’t roll your eyes and say “Oh boy, she’s THAT kid…” {I admit, I am sure I did that a time or two as a teacher myself} Know that she desperately wants your approval, and to make you proud.

I mostly just want you to know that Sophia is an amazing little girl. I know, I’m a little biased. But really. She is. I hope you get to see that in her…I know she’ll have good days and not so great days…but please know she’s trying; we as parents are trying; trying to raise a kind, patient, obedient and respectful little gal….

I’m so excited for this new adventure….and I’m also a little terrified….thanks for taking the time to read this. You are going to a huge part of Sophia’s life, and we are so very thankful for that!

Sincerely,

Fia’s Mama

Joshua & Sophia :: 3 Years Old

Well….more like 3 years + 3 months, but who’s counting!!?

I recently realized that I have been keeping track of Clara’s monthly happenings way better than I did with Joshy and Fia.  Yes, I took their monthly pictures, but other than, I didn’t keep track of much.  I barely have enough information to start a baby book for them {uhhh, yeah….haven’t done their baby books yet} and I barely remember anything before they were 1.  Such is life.  I feel badly, but I can’t really change it now.

So, in an effort to get into a routine of sharing about these two big kids, I’m going to do an update a few times a year for these kiddos…..just like babies, they change and grow so quickly!

Joshua Edward :::

Schedule:

6:30–Wakeup

Play Play Play Play Play Play eat eat eat eat Play Play Play Play Play

6:30–Bedtime

As you can see, Joshy is on the go from the moment he wakes up.  Literally.  He doesn’t “slowly” wake up….he wakes up at full speed and doesn’t stop until he goes to bed.  Yes, that means we are done with naps.  I really dreaded the day he stopped taking naps….selfishly, I really enjoyed having some quiet time middle of the day….but the day has come, and we are surviving with a toddler who doesn’t take a nap 🙂  Up until this point, Joshy’s schedule has been kind of loosey goosey.  Some mornings we go to the park, some days we run errands, some days we have an organized activity, sometimes we go on a “field trip”….it really depends, but we really haven’t had much structure, thus far.  That will change when preschool starts, so more on that next time I do an update for the big kids!

Eating:

Can we say picky eater??  Thankfully, Joshua is a little more willing to try “new” foods because he is very motivated by rewards/treats….aka, an Oreo Cookie (just like his mama!).  But he is still very picky, and has a very small list of foods he LIKES!

Likes:

  • Sophia–he often tells me that she is his best friend
  • Anything related to building
  • Giving juicy, wet kisses
  • Baby Clara (“Hiiiii little babyyyyyyy” he often says)
  • Trains, trucks, airplanes….anything that moves
  • Dancing
  • Being silly
  • Cuddling with mama before bed
  • Playing outside

Dislikes:

  • Sophia being “first” at anything
  • The “yucky” part of the pizza…aka, the crust
  • Timeouts
  • Having to wait

Personality:

Where to begin with Joshua.  He is such a sweet, energetic, curious and fun boy.  Joshy is so incredibly determined about most things in life…..which can be good and extremely exhausting.  He is strong willed, but also knows how to be flexible.  He is really tender and sweet with his sisters (just today we were sitting on the couch together, watching a show, and several times throughout the show he leaned over to give Fia a kiss).  Joshua is talkative, and likes being your buddy–he’d love to sit and play with you all day….he loves attention and affection.  He asks a lot of questions, and he likes reassurance.  He is probably the source of most of my quickly increasing gray hairs…I wouldn’t call him an “easy” kid….but he has truly taught me so much!  About how to how to be determined and passionate and loving and thoughtful (this kid always wants to buy me flowers when we are shopping–his daddy taught him well).  He is a true joy!

Schedule:

6:30–Wakeup

Play Play Play Play Play Play eat eat eat eat Play Play Play Play Play

6:30–Bedtime

Sophia, like Joshua, is on the go most of the day….though, Sophia does tend to start her day off slower and quieter.  Sophia would still take a nap if I let her {in fact, I let her take a nap today, and regretted it at 9:15 when she was STILL awake}…but I don’t.  When she takes a nap, she is up until 9 (or later) at night….this isn’t ideal if I am hoping to accomplish anything else for the evening.

Eating:

Can we say picky eater??  Yup.  two picky eaters.  Except, Sophia’s pickiness is extreme.  She is very unwilling to try most new foods (even yummy foods, that she doesn’t realize are yummy) and truthfully, we haven’t pushed her much thus far.  We had too many other things we wanted to tackle before we tackled her picky eating, but that will happen in the near future.  Sophia thinks eating snacks should be an hourly activity and often, in her excitement to eat {the same darn thing again} asks for lunch and dinner and dinner at a breakfast.  Food is food, right?

Likes:

  • Make believe play with Joshy
  • Dancing
  • Singing to music
  • Puzzles
  • Anything electronic
  • Playing with baby Clara
  • Reading books
  • Cuddling
  • Bandaids
  • Swimming

Dislikes:

  • Many foods
  • Getting an ouchie
  • Having to wait
  • Being talked to sternly

Personality:

Sophia has always been our “laid back” kiddo.  She has mostly been super compliment and easy going….until recently.  She isn’t a terror by any means, but she is definitely ready to voice her opinions/likes/dislikes now.  I kind of like this {though it’s very stressful to have two very strong willed kids in the same moment} because I can see her using it positively at times!  Sophia is so, so nurturing and caring and sweet.  She “loves” every animal she comes in contact with, she plays sweetly with Clara baby, and I often find her patting Joshy’s head or back when they are sitting/playing next to each other.  Sophia is also silly and loves to laugh and giggle!  Her laugh is contagious!  She is shy and cautious at times.  l love her sweet and sassy personality.

Joshy & Fia ::: As Twins

Mohr Family-79

We have said {from day 1} that Joshua and Sophia couldn’t be any more different.  It’s really true.  They look nothing like “twins” and they act nothing like “twins.  I love this about them.  Yes, they shared space in the womb together, but being a twin doesn’t define them.  It makes their relationship special, but “twins” isn’t the first thing I think of when I think about J & S.

Mohr Family-24

I also always say that they FIGHT hard, but LOVE harder.  Many moments of the day I will hear them chasing after each other, playing, imagining, giggling and sweetly talking to one another…..but there are also moments when they are pushing, and yelling and fighting over a toy.  I think that’s the nature of having someone who is the same age as you {and trying to learn all the same social things that you’re trying to learn}…I love when I hear them pretending to be puppy {Joshy} and owner {Sophia}….and when they rolling around on the ground giggling with each other.  I don’t love when they take things from each other, and I have to run to “break it up,” but again, they are learning….and this is part of it!  I think what makes my heart beam with joy is when when one of the kids is awake first, and they other says “Where’s Fia??”  or when I am out with one of the kids and as we are driving home I hear, “I miss Joshy…”  They really do have a pretty incredible bond, and while it can be super trying at times, more often than not, it’s just really amazing to see!

Clara Ann :: 6 months

6 months. Don’t remind me that we are now 1/2 way to 1 year.

 **Sob**
Clara is at such a lovely age and I wish I could freeze time to keep her this way a little bit longer than normal….

Schedule!!?

What schedule? In the last month we have gone from pretty predictable to pretty ALL OVER THE PLACE. It’s really no one’s fault but mine/ours….being the “baby” in the family, Clara goes to and fro and has to kind of go with the flow of the big kids’ schedules. Some days Clara takes 3 naps, some days 2 naps….some days she eats every 4 hours, some days, every 3 hours. It’s really all over the place, and while it kind of drives me crazy to not have a set schedule, it’s been working….I am, however, looking forward to this fall and getting into some sort of “normal” again! Typically, though, our schedule looks like this…

6:30 am — Wake up Time

Eat…Play…Sleep…

Repeat

Repeat

Repeat

7:00 pm– Bed Time

Clear as mud, right??

Eating:

As mentioned before, Clara is all over the place with her feedings; some days she gets 2 meals of solids….some days she gets 5 bigger bottles…some days she gets 6 smaller bottles….your guess is as good as mine. We made it right to 6 months, on the dot, with bottled breast milk….and then I retired the pump. I am thankful that I was able to provide her with the “liquid gold” for 6 months, a little disappointed that I didn’t stick it out longer, but mostly very happy and relieved to know it’s “one less thing” to do…AND to know that she will grow and be just as happy while drinking formula. This month Clara still has had 1-2 “meals” of baby food a day and really hasn’t turned her nose up to anything; thank you child!

Sleeping:

Sleep seemed to take a little set back this month. She still sleeps well, don’t get me wrong…but some days her naps aren’t great, and some days she is awake at 11 pm wanting to eat. This is something we are really trying to figure out because we know she doesn’t NEED to eat since she clearly is capable of sleeping through the night, but she wakes up and a bottle is what soothes her back to sleep since she doesn’t like a pacifier or anything else, really. Meh, we’ll always be tired, right? Hopefully in the next month we’ll work towards getting back to sleeping all night, until 5 or 6 am!

Likes:

  • Jumping in her airplane “jumper”
  • Music and dancing
  • Joshua and Sophia–actually, she LOVES them. They can get a bigger reaction out of her than the parents–go figure 🙂

Dislikes:

  • Getting her faced wiped after eating

Highlights:

  • Clara got two bottom teeth this month!
  • Started pivoting on her belly and rolling to where she wants to be…time to baby proof
  • Continued to try new food!

What a little lovie we have on our hands!
