real life.

This gives you an idea why the blog has been neglected….

Toys everywhere.  Clothes unfolded {for far too many days past being laundered}.  Days that start before the sun is up.  Trips to the park, the pool, the farm, the store. Tantrums.  Sandy feet running through the house.
Life is busy with 3 littles.  But truly, I wouldn’t change it!

weekend fun

Lots of catching up to do…but I’ll start with a quick weekend recap!
We started the weekend with outside playtime and playdoh, on Friday!  Shockingly everyone played nicely enough that I could sit back and watch for a few minutes!

Then off to the races for a busy weekend.  We had a dress rehearsal on Friday evening for Sophias first recital…pretty much the most hilarious and cute thing ever….

Then Saturday morning we got ready for a busy day!  First we went to the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides walk that was in town!  So great to be able to support our sister (in law:)) as well as all those who live with CF!!!   Thank you to all our friends and family who supported this extremely important cause!

Then we rushed home (while I was watching the hands on the clock ticking away) and had a grand total of 15 minutes to change clothes, get Sophia’s hair in a ballerina bun (aye….the sock bun tutorial on YouTube looked way easier than it was!!!), costume on and out the door (oh and scarf down lunch).  It was so fun to go see Sophia’s first recital!  I was a little unsure how she would do because she can be really shy and not enjoy the spotlight.  But she did great and really had a blast!!!  So sweet to watch that little girl up on stage!  Cutest little Purple People Eaters in town!

Part way through the program (after Fia’s dance), Joshy and Aunt Ede were off to meet Uncle James and his parents/niece to see Thomas!  Joshy had a blast!  What a lucky boy to have some special time 🙂

While they were away we took the girls to dinner with my parents….but I don’t have any pictures of that because I was busy wrangling my crazy 15 month old–we have hit the “it’s not fun to take this baby out to eat…”  She just wanted to walk around and open cupboard and eat edamame off the ground.

Today was a bit more relaxed!   We hung out, went to church, library time and we all took a glorious Sunday afternoon nap. The kids haven’t napped in almost a year.  But I really wanted to sleep and I somehow convinced them we were all going to nap when Clara took her afternoon nap.  It was fantastic.  Until they were awake till 8:30/9:00 tonight (which feels crazy late since they are usually in bed at 6:30, otherwise)….

Ended the day with a little crazy dance party hoping it would tire them out….no such luck….

you choose dinner

We have been implementing a menu with the kids because we were struggling with a lot of resistance at dinner if we weren’t having what the kids wanted {minus Clara….she wants every food}.  This includes every meal of the week so that they can say “what are we having tomorrow” and it won’t be a huge surprise when the meal is being served.  We still have resistance with actually eating some of the foods on the menu, but at least we aren’t having full blown melt downs because WE ARE NOT HAVING CHICKEN NUGGETS?????!
Thursday nights I feed the kids pretty early because Sophia has dance and as soon as Greg gets home we do a switch of duty and we are off; since it’s so early I really have zero time to get anything of significance prepped, so I decided to turn Thursday’s dinner menu to a “You Choose” meal…this means exactly what it sounds like; you choose, and I’ll make it for you!
I did this to simply Thursday evenings, but it’s not only simplifies things {since they always choose something super easy for me to throw on their plates} but it gives back a little control to them and makes them feel involved in decision making, even if it is a super small decision.
Here’s the You Choose meal for tonight; protein packed strawberry pancakes, bananas and yogurt.  Not bad kids, not bad…

Clara’s FIRST birthday celebration(s)

We celebrated Clara’s birthday on the actual date, as a family!  It ended up being a really snowy day so Greg worked from how which allowed him to pop in and enjoy a bit more of the day with us than normal!

Last night as a baby….tomorrow you will be a 1 year old, sweet girl.  JK.  You are going to be a baby forever.  Got it?!!!

We got all ready to celebrate our big girl…

We started her birthday with a big pile of donuts–duh!  We let her open a present and then she was ready for nap after all that commotion!

After a good nap she was ready party like it was her birthday!  I took the kids to a local kid playland and then planned to meet Greg for lunch after; Clara had fun but let’s just say lunch plans were squashed when our threenage tots were a little less than fantastic on our outing (keep in mind we were still in the post-surgery phase for Joshua-I should have known better)…

Clara ended the day with pizza and reading in her birthday suit!

Fast forward a month!  We finally got to celebrate Clara with our friends and family this past weekend!  It was a fun, simple gathering celebrating our little dear!

As you can see we had a little woodland theme going on and it turned out just as I had pictured!  So sweet for our little girl!

It was a super fun time!  Clara was very aware that it was all about her.  She would just stand in the middle of everyone and turn around in a circle making sure everyone still had their eyes on her :). I was also very impressed and proud of the big kids for really letting the day be about Clara.  They tend to like the spotlight but they did a really good job of being as patient as humanly possibly when it came to cake, presents and all the attention Clara was getting!

And just as the song goes….
It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to…cry, the birthday girl did!  Something about mama putting icing in her mouth set her off.   But don’t let this picture fool you….she had a blast; we are so thankful that our families and friends could be with us to celebrate!

easter

I love Easter!  Just like Christmas, having a REASON to celebrate just makes a holiday that much more meaningful and wonderful!  Yesterday was no exception as we were woken up to beautifully sun filled skies as we reflected on the sacrifice of the cross and the miracle of the resurrection!  Thankful for a holiday that signifies the reason we live!
We spent the morning dying eggs, going to church and then back home for brunch with my family!  The kids had fun with an Easter egg hunt (even Clara baby was way into it) and then we spent the rest of the day running around outside!

After the kids had dinner and were bathed we took balloons from Clara’s party outside and let the kids watch them float away (I was so tired of the kids running around with them in the house)…as they sat there and watched the balloons I was reminded of a song often sung on Easter Sunday…

There in the ground His body lay / Light of the world by darkness slain / Then bursting forth in glorious Day / Up from the grave He rose again

Happy Easter to all!
